About Kansas

Kansas is a pretty solid Republican state, but it's not quite as solid as you think. Kansas does have a lot of farming—its yearly wheat production is enough to bake 36 billion loaves of bread—but over half of the state's population is actually urban. The race for Kansas's open Senate seat is surprisingly close, though the Republican is still favored to win. But Kansas is still dominated by whites without college degrees, and we are unlikely to see it flip blue this year. Abortion and healthcare are key issues that divide Kansans, though there is also a heated debate over whether or not to make watermelon the state fruit.
