About Nebraska

Nebraska is a state in the Midwest where the governor, and all its representatives and senators are Republican. They have voted for the Republican candidate in the last 13 presidential elections. Unlike most states, all five electoral votes from the state are not distributed to the state popular vote winner; two are given to the state popular vote winner and one is given to the winner of each of the three House districts. Only the 2nd district ever votes for a different candidate than the state as a whole, as it did in 2008. Big agriculture, oil and gas pipelines, renewable energy, and nature conservation are important issues in Nebraska. Nebraska has a state soil: the Holdrege silt loam, which is the soil that is in much of the state, especially in agricultural areas.

Note: Nebraska distributes some electoral votes according to the winner of each congressional district. Since the second congressional district votes less consistently with the state as a whole, it was simulated separately in our model. View Nebraska CD-2.
