About Virginia
Did you know that around half of the Civil War was fought in Virginia? With such a vivid history on disagreement, it's no surprise that this state has many hot button issues, including gun control, minimum wage, criminal justice reform, and casinos and gambling. Starting off as a red state in the early 2000s, Virginia has slowly shifted into a blue state, as evident by recent presidential elections and current polls. With a House of Delegates with 55 Democrats and 45 Republicans, as well as a state Senate of 21 Democrats and 19 Republicans, it is clear that Virginia has shifted from a primarily Republican state to a primarily Democratic state. Amidst the global pandemic, voters are highly encouraged to participate with mail-in ballots, with governor Ralph Northam pushing for the funding of prepaid postage for ballots, allowing voters to correct potential errors and still be counted.
